Dexter and Daddy's night time game
Our night time baby to bed routine is pretty set. Each person has his or her part. Dexter's part, obviously, is just to be the cutest, most perfectest baby in the universe. The rest is up to me and Joel. One of the optional, but usual, parts of the routine is the dance part. This is where Joel is changing Dexter into his jammies and is taking his onesie off but leaves it mostly on Dexter's head. Then, he stands Dexter up and dances him around. Of course, Dexter LOVES it. Though, he does seem a litle embarrassed when caught in the act.

He gets over it quickly though!

Dexter's 4 month appointment
Dexter turned 4 months old last week-ish on the 17th. I honestly CANNOT BELIEVE it has been that long! His four month appointment was pretty uneventful (as usual) because he is the perfect baby. How can we have any questions for the pediatrician besides "How did our baby get so perfect?" He got his shots again - this time 1 oral vaccine and three shots. It is so sad because you want to warn him what's coming, but you can't. Two nurses came in and simultaneously gave the shots, so it wasn't too prolonged, but Dexter did cry a little bit. Some time with Daddy cured it all though! And again, we were amazed by Dexter's stats, which are as follows:
Weight: 17lbs, 11oz (95th %ile) Almost double his birthweight!
Height: 27" (above 95th %ile)
and Head Circumference: I forgot the measurement (But maybe will add it in later with the magic of the internet) but it was 60th %ile.
And in conclusion: Big body, little head, perfect baby.
He's sucking on his fists and anything he can put in his mouth, but we can't find any teeth emerging yet, and neither could the pediatrician. But it's a little early anyway. Also, Dexter's not rolling over yet either, but that's not too abnormal these days either since the "Back to Sleep" campaign. He's really close though!
Lastly, and unrelatedly, the picture above is actually from Dexter's 3 month photoshoot with Aunt Sara and if his parents could get on their game they'd give her the pictures they like to edit! But I thought a post like this really needed a photo of a cute pudgy baby.

In this post I'll tell you how a little piece of my heart breaks off
It all started last Monday. I usually bring Dexter to daycare - a home daycare, run by C, halfway between our house and my work. Of course, this means it is about 3.5 minutes away from each (when traffic is slow!). Dexter is there with C's 2 year old and 3 month old - who is exactly 2 weeks younger than Dexter.
So, on this particular Monday I brought Dexter to daycare. I hauled in the bags and the carseat with my 20 pounder, set it all down, talked with C and got ready to leave. Here's usually the moment when I hand Dexter off and say goodbye, and then make my way to work. He is usually all dazed from his catnap in the car on the way over. That day as I handed him off, C said (as usual) "Are you ready to play Dexter?" and his face cracked into a wide smile and he waved his arms all around. He was happy to be there - practically elated. It took me a moment to realize it, and as I left it felt kind of weird that he was so happy to be somewhere other than with me. It didn't exactly hurt, but it didn't feel awesome either.
Today, I stopped by to feed him at 11am, like I always do. (One of the positives of working so close!) He was in kind of a tired mood - not cranky, but not laughing a lot either. When I brought him back out to C, he was chill - until she looked at him and started talking. She got a smile, but I didn't.
I know that he loves me (well, as much as he can grasp right now, in any case!). And I know she's not undermining me or anything, but it is still kind of hard to see how happy he is with someone other than Joel and I. I knew even before I got pregnant that I couldn't be a stay at home mom. Even taking away any financial aspects of me having a job, I just am not the kind of person who would enjoy staying home. I enjoy my job. I'm pretty good at my job. And I feel like I need my job for my sanity. But it is kind of difficult to see that there are other people in Dexter's life. It's definitely good that he likes it there, and I'd hate for him to cry when he goes there. But does he have to be quite so happy about it?
